There are a couple of important things to notice about this schedule: first: the first five sessions (May 31 – June 8) are devoted to skill-building; second, the subject area denotes the subject of discussion for that class; and finally, the class sessions are less planned out as we reach the end of the semester, with time given over to ‘project work’. Time is very important in this course, as you will soon discover. As such, I have designed the syllabus to accommodate as much studio time during class sessions as possible, but in order to satisfy the Artistic Analysis designation, we must engage in discussion and critique.
* ‘Project Work’ in the schedule below refers to the semester-long project you will develop through this course. The project is self-directed, meaning that you are responsible for choosing the topic/issue and deciding how you will make art that refers to/reacts to/connects with it. I will address this thoroughly and hold conferences with each student to ensure that the design and expectations of the course are clearly understood. It is important to emphasize that although self-directed, you are not alone without help in this project.
